It’s True– Smart ForTwo 33.8 MPG in the City– My First Fill Up

Smartpnl

I finally filled it up for the first time today. After covering 213 miles, spending $29.00 and drinking 6.3 gallons, I was full (there was a quarter tank left when I filled up), and I am now satisfied that the math works. This blog will continue to chart the mileage in my Smart ForTwo odyssey. And, for you Mini Cooper lovers (yes, I love them too) see our new ‘08 Mini below– mileage reports to follow….

    21 mpg
I have driven the SMART Passion now for 2350 miles, city driving in flat Los Angeles and can’t get better then 21 – 22 mpg.
That is really poor mileage. Highest I ever got was 24 mpg with some highway driving.

We’ve got just over 1,000 miles on our smart now. We get a consistent 20 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. Dealer says it needs to break in more, and I’ve seen figures online in other blogs from 1,500 to several thousand miles before it gets what it is supposed to. Frustrating.

I’ve had my smart for 3 weeks now and i’m only getting 23.5 mpg (flat LA city driving, min freeway miles), i’m extremely frustrated and thought i would feel better seeing that others are having the same problem but it almost makes me feel worse…how many miles on average does the dealer “claim” it will take to get max mileage? I’m just getting online now for the first time to do my research.

THIS IS FRUSTRATING– BUT IT SEEMS YOU ARE AT THE LOW END OF THE SCALE– MY WORST FILL UPS ARE AROUND 28MPG WITH MY BEST AT 33MPG. OTHER SF SMARTCAR OWNERS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ARE GETTING 30MPG TO 31MPG. HAVE YOU TRIED THE MANUAL ASSIST MODE INSTEAD OF FULL AUTOMATIC?
